September 2008 - Issue 4: Grand Format Product Update

ITL's Grand Format Ink products are designed for production scale digital printing on inkjet printers of between 1.5 and 5.0 metres in width. Inks are suitable for high-speed printing and are designed for reliable around-the-clock performance. ITL's ISO9001 certification means you can be assured of consistent high-quality ink solutions which are available for most Vutek, Gandinnovations, Infinity, HP Scitex, NUR, Mutoh, DGI, Infiniti, Flora, Tekwin, Wit-colo, Yaselan and Gongzeng models.

Most inks in the range are colour matched so they can be slotted into an existing colour management workflow without reprofiling and printer flushing is not usually neccesary when converting machines from the OEM inks. Inks are supplied in 1, 5 and 25 litre containers and provide significant cost savings without compromising on quality.

The links below will take you to more comprehensive details on this website, including full printer compatiblity details and technical data sheets for each ink.

Meet ITL's Technical Director

In this 4'th edition of ITL’s Full Coverage Newsletter we have the company’s Technical Director, Stuart Flynn, in profile, documenting his most siginificant achievements and their impact on the industry. We also reflect his thoughts on current trends and issues in the market:

Stuart left school armed with a handful of GCSE certificates and headed straight for the world of full-time work. After a few "false starts" (Toys R Us), Stuart took the opportunity to join a Manchester, UK, based Textile Dye Manufacturing company called Crompton Knowles. He was employed as a lab assistant and began working on fabric dye development and colour matching projects.

A year later Stuart joined the inkjet ink world when Lyson offered him a position as a Lab assistant within their QC department. Stuart took to the role and it soon became clear that he had an aptitude for the work. He gradually moved away from the QC role and was allowed to get to work on the research and development of new inks. He began formulating, testing and developing ground-breaking inkjet inks and his skills allowed him to reach the rank of Chief Chemist within a couple of years of joining the company. Over time it would be proven that Toys R Us’s loss was undoubtedly the printing industry’s gain.

Some of Stuart’s early work whilst there challenged existing processes. At this time, in the mid 1990’s, their ink was being supplied onto the Airbrush series of Vutek machines but was delivered to the customer in two separate containers. The colour was derived from a fluid which Stuart describes as “looking like paint” and then a solvent thinner was added by the user. The mixture had to be measured and tweaked until it was at the correct viscosity to run in the machine. This process had to be followed on a daily basis and users could spend up to an hour a day mixing and measuring the ink before being able to start up the machine.

Stuart developed a much simpler solution – a new fluid that that was neutonium based (“viscosity controlled”) which allowed the ink to be supplied as a single, finished fluid. The user received a more convenient-to-use product which was reliably consistent in terms of viscosity. The new product allowed users of those machines to reduce their ink costs and helped them to significantly increase productivity.

ITL NEWS IN BRIEF

CHIPS WITH EVERYTHING
All of the inks that ITL supply in pre-filled cartridges have 220ml or 440ml chips attached meaning they are simple to install and ready to use. We  also supply refillable cartridges and bulk inks for most Roland, Mutoh, Mimaki, Agfa, Uniform, Seiko, Oce & Tiara printers. These are supplied along with a unique chip solution so that in most cases a full litre of ink can go through the printer without the need to remove the cartridges or reset the chips. Further bulk inks are supplied with new chips and we supply precision chip positioning jigs so that users can add the new chips to the refillable cartridges themselves. ITL Bulk solutions reduce printer running costs and can also help to increase productivity whilst reducing plastic wastage.
