
ITL People Profiles - The Managing Director.
We interviewed ITL Managing Director Robin Titterington (pictured below) for our Full Coverage E:Newsletter in June 2009.
Originally from Knutsford in Cheshire, Robin, 46, now lives around the corner from ITL HQ in Cheadle Hulme with his wife, 2 children, Rachel and Leah, and a Fox Terrier dog called Ralph. Having completed a HNC in Business Studies, Robin started work as an office junior and after 20 years in a variety of roles within the printing industry, he and a small group of colleagues decided to start ITL as an independent ink manufacturing company in 2001. Robin cites this decision and the continuing success of ITL's business as his most significant career success.
Q: Hi Robin, apart from being Managing Director at ITL what other jobs have you done?
A: Trainee Accountant, Senior Distribution Clerk, Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, Senior Product Manager.
Q : During your time in business what’s the most important thing you have learned?
A: Go with your gut feeling.
Q: What was your first car?
Ford Escort 1.3, three door - couldn’t afford all 5.
Q: What is your dream car?
A: Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
Q: What are your favourite places to spend your free time?
A: Hong Kong when abroad and the Lake District when in the UK.
Q: What are your hobbies or interests?
A: Golf; having taken lessons last year I am now trying to put into practice what I was taught with varying degrees of success.
Q: Which team do you support?
A: Man City Season Ticket Holder for my sins. For whatever reason I keep on going back for more!
Q: In your music collection what is the album you listen to most?
A: Depends what mood I am in. I prefer to mix and match so anything from AC/DC to Vivaldi.
Q: What is the song that always puts a smile on your face?
A: Red, Red Wine by UB40 - our wedding song.
Q: What is your musical guilty pleasure – the song you love but know you shouldn’t?
A: You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC. Am I too old to be listening to AC/DC now? (yes! - ed)
Q: What was the last film you saw?
A: Slum Dog Millionaire
Q: What was the last book you read?
A: On the Edge - My Story by Richard Hammond.
Q: Tell us something that not many people know about you.
A: I have run two half marathons for charity.
Q: If you could be somebody else for a day, who would you want to be and why?
A: Any professional sportsman as sport teaches you many disciplines which you can use in everyday life.
Q: Finally, you are hosting a dinner party and can invite any 3 people, living or dead; who would you invite and why?
A: Ellen MacArthur – to find out what motivates her.
Richard Hammond – he is a total petrol head and enjoys a beer.
Gordon Ramsay – he is a lively character and if the food was rubbish he could go in the kitchen and cook a new meal !!
