Environmental Standards

As part of BS EN ISO 9001:2000 the company continually assesses its activities with respect to the impact on safety and the environment.

Raw Materials:

ITL uses organic and lactate grade solvents in ink formulations wherever possible, many of which are typically used in the food industry as preservatives. Unlike other solvents these can be broken down naturally by the body. As a consequence the majority of our solvent based inks (with the exception of our coding and marking inks) are able to be classified as non-hazardous for transportation purposes reducing shipping costs for our customers.

Manufacturing Waste Reduction Programme:

By using efficient working methods we have achieved a dramatic reduction in the amount of solvent wastage compared to other ink manufacturing environments. Working in association with the Institute of Manufacturing, ITL has developed “lean manufacturing best practices” where we continually look at improvements in our manufacturing and packaging methods geared towards waste reduction.

Eco Solvent Inks:

ITL produce two eco solvent inks which have a reduced solvent content and which do not emit harmful volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) into the atmosphere. Furthermore, ITL’s enhanced range of premium ink products provide superior printing performance compared to certain OEM inks which increases a printer’s operating efficiency, reducing ink lay down and paper wastage. Our light stable outdoor inks can be displayed for a significant length of time so there is less need to reprint billboards and banners part way through a campaign when they are printed with ITL inks.

Refilling and Bulk Inks:

We will continue to manufacture products for the most environmentally friendly sectors of the digital printing industry, including our expanding range of water based inks for the “refill” sector, where bulk inkjet inks are used to replenish existing ink cartridges rather than disposing of them to landfill sites. We offer our customers the option to purchase the majority of our ink products in bulk so that a refillable cartridge or bulk feed system, rather than a brand new ink cartridge, can be used to deliver ink to the printer, reducing waste plastic disposal.
